Second meeting of KNSI

Knowledge Network on Sustainable Intensification (KNSI) Committee met for second time

The second meeting of the KNSI Committee was held on Tuesday October 5th 2016 in London. The focus of the meeting was on determining the Work Programme for 2017-2018. In a sessions with National Funder Representatives and National Research leads from seven countries, the first three actions were agreed upon. The actions include preparing a brief with more focus on the boundaries of Sustainable Intensification (SI), work on indicators of SI and work on policy arrangements beneficial for SI.In the meeting, the Chair for the research leads was appointed. Professor Martin van Ittersum, Wageningen University and Research, will take up this task for one year after which an internal evaluation of the network is planned. Election of the funders’ chair is currently discussed. The Committee meeting was organised back-to-back with the OECD TempAg Foresight meeting (5-7 October) to be able to explore options for cooperation.

The Knowledge Network is an experiment in bringing together (existing) research, research groups, policymakers and – ultimately – end-users. Its goal is to support easier decision making for research funders, policy makers, farmers, land managers and the agri-food industry and thereby improved balance between economic, environmental and social effects of farming in its geographic and/or environmental situation.
